Helped an organization detect and eliminate fake news

Disinformation campaigns have been at the forefront of our news feeds across social as well as traditional media. The ability to decipher what is real and what is not is paramount to confidence in our reporting, our government processes, and civic fabric.

In less than 30-days of data collection, we identified fraudulent social media channels linked to regions in Russia and Ukraine. Our software provided intelligence analysts with “seeds,” examples of content of interest and investigation that searches publicly available information (PAI) to find associated or similar content. That found content was then “fingerprinted” - a process that helped analysts efficiently scan millions of pieces of existing and new content being posted in real time onto public information sources, to identify relevant content that matches the fingerprint. This process continually repeats, collecting more detail and casting a wider net to detect fraudulent or bad actor accounts.
